Temp Pay: $19 – $24/Hour (Based On Experience)
Pay Once Perm: $18 – $23/hr

Overview:
The clinical support staff role will focus on supporting nephrology providers (physicians and advanced practice care providers) with patient care. Busy practice seeing 50-70 patients per day. Basic job duties include interacting with patients to complete in-office assessments, updating medication lists, educating patients on specialty medications, preparing providers for upcoming appointments and processing orders that impact patient care. This position may require travel between locations. Candidates must know how to take manual blood pressure and use an automatic blood pressure monitor.

Basic Job Duties:
- Taking patient vitals in a clinical assessment during in-office patient appointments (blood pressure, temperature, weight and pulse oximetry).
- Candidates must know how to take manual blood pressure and use an automatic blood pressure monitor.
- Updating medication lists and medical history during patient in-office appointments and patient interactions over the phone.
- Working within an EMR to complete appointment preparation activities and flag urgent concerns to medical providers.
- Reviewing and prioritizing new and existing patient data to help with clinical care and appointment setting for clinical providers.
- Administrative functions including hospital and referring provider interactions, gathering diagnostic data for providers, managing inventory and interacting with payors to complete step therapy and prior authorization paperwork.
- Conducting patient outreach for various programs and initiatives such a chronic care management, remote patient monitoring or other clinical programs to support practice patients.
- Assisting patients with limited mobility during their appointments.
Required Experience:
- Medical Assistant Program Completion or Certification
- Basic pharmacology knowledge (medication classes, dosage calculations, drug interactions, common side effects, administration and safety techniques)
- Knowledge of medications used in a chronic care environment (ACEs, ARBs, nephrology medications preferred)
- Knowledge of common EMR (Epic preferred) and medical scheduling systems (Willing to Train)
- Experience with outpatient medical practices
- Proficiency with AED operation
- Basic Life Support certification
- Knowledge and familiarity with medical compliance requirements including HIPAA and OSHA
Preferred Experience:
- Certified Medical Assistant (CCMA, RMA or CMA)
- 2 years of medical assistant experience in a specialty medical environment (nephrology, cardiology, endocrinology, etc.)
- Knowledge of insurance provider requirements (step therapies, prior authorizations, etc.)
- Experience with chronic care management and remote patient monitoring systems and reports
Skills and Abilities:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, and Excel)
- Exemplary written and verbal communication skills, including appropriate spelling, proper punctuation and grammar

Physical and Mental Demands:
- Ability to walk, sit, and stand when patients are in the office, as part of an active work environment.
- Handle prolonged periods of sitting, standing, pushing, pulling and lifting objects that are thirty pounds or less when patients are not in the office.
- Must be able to work on screens for long periods of time on a computer, iPad or other electronic device.
- Manual dexterity required for typing, taking patient vitals, using iPads and other electronic devices in the office such as fax machines and phones.
- Managing occasional stress related to workload and position demands.
